SPEAKERS IN 2026

ANDREW LOUND gave a very good presentation about space, from the beginning of the Space Race, up until
we eventually landed a man on the moon. Andrew is very knowledgeable and gave us lots of facts that we were probably not aware of at the time. He also added short video films and music from the 60's to enhance his presentation, which we enjoyed very much. Excellent speaker who has visited us many times.

DAVID BARTLEY entertained us with some really funny Black Country humour. He made us all laugh with his poems and stories which we could easily relate to and follow the relevance to our great part of England. We highly recommend David and will be inviting him back next year.

CHRIS WYLE came along to our June meeting and told us about the role of a magistrate. He explained why he decided to take on this work, gave us plenty of background information about the duties of a magistrate, and also gave us examples of cases he had encountered. This was a really interesting presentation and I'm sure our group learned a lot about the court system and the part played by magistrates. Well done Chris.

ANDREW FRENCH told us all about the history of The Beatles. We learnt some fascinating facts about the group - George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Staff, listened to some of their great music and thoroughly enjoyed the talk. Andrew's presentation was excellent and well worth listening too.

EMMA BARON-SCOTT gave a very interesting and entertaining talk about the history of sweets. We learned some fascinating facts, were given free samples of sweets, and were able to purchase lots of different types of sweets. Very good speaker who gave us lots of information.

KEITH FARR entertained us in March with his very good guitar playing and singing. He encouraged us all to join in with a few Cliff Richard songs, plus other music by artists such as Elvis Presley and The Beatles to name a few. Very good afternoon and we look forward to seeing him again.

ANDREW LOUND gave an excellent presentation about The Carpathia, the ship that went to the rescue of the Titanic. This was an excellent talk, lots and lots of very interesting information about the ship itself and its history. Andrew also told us about the crew, the passengers and facilities on board, and also what happened to the Captain afterwards and also the ship itself. Excellent talk, everyone was enthralled by Andrew's very knowledgeable presentation and we would highly recommend him and this talk about The Carpathia.

20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION meeting was held in March and we gathered together lots of photographs and other memorabilia to put on display for our members to remind them of meetings, interest group activities, outings and holidays since 2005. Happy memories were there for lots of us, and although we have lost some of our founder members, their legacy lingers on and we enjoyed the afternoon very much.

TOM HAYES entertained us really well with his singing, including country and western songs, other popular music, and a good selection of the hits of Elvis Presley. Tom is a very good singer, and we highly recommend him.
